A Dog Survival Guide for Weddings

Consult with the venue authorities first.

Before appointing your dog any role in the ceremony, it is crucial that you inform the people in charge of the ceremony venue first. In some churches and other wedding venues, pets are not allowed or there may be restrictions about bringing pets, so you have to know about these things before going on with the wedding planning. If the venue authorities would not allow it, consider finding another venue or have your dog stay at home instead.

Choose a suitable role for your dog.

It is your pet so you know its behavior and temperament. Basing from its personality, you should choose a role that will be fitting for it. For example, if your dog is energetic and smart, it may be able to do the job of the ring bearer effectively (given that it would be held on a leash by an usher and the ring will be in a pouch to be carried in his mouth).

Practice your dog for its role.

To ensure a smooth flow during the ceremony, make sure that your precious dog knows about its role in the event. Practice several days before the wedding and be sure to reward your doggie for doing it right.

Appoint a dog handler.

You have so many things in mind during your big day so it would be ideal to have someone walk your dog or take it to a place to relieve itself before the ceremony.

Tips for Bringing a Dog to a Wedding

Inform the couple.
First and foremost, you have to tell the couple in advance that you are bringing your pet with you. This way, they can inform you if the dog is allowed or not in the venue or if they are comfortable with the idea of having a pet during their wedding. This will also give them time to make necessary adjustments if ever. You may request to be seated far from children or other guests who are not fond of dogs. Do not have hard feelings if the couple does not say yes.

Give your dog a good bath.

Before going to the ceremony, be sure to wash your pup so that guests who have allergies on pets would have nothing to complain about.

Ensure that it is well fed and relieved before going to the wedding.
This is important to avoid unnecessary behavioral problems or tantrums that may cause to disrupt the event.

Leave your beloved dog at home.

This is the right thing to do unless you can be absolutely sure that your pet can behave well during the event. You do not want it doing something that can ruin the couple’s special day.

Some people may not understand why you would want to give your dog a special role in your wedding or why you would want to take it with you during special events like weddings. But as long as your dog is allowed in the premises and it does not do anything to ruin the occasion, there is nothing wrong in considering these options.

Weddings drop to lowest level for over 100 years

WASHINGTON

As the recession shook Americans’ confidence last year, new figures show that weddings for people 18 and older dropped to the lowest point in over a hundred years.

A broad array of new Census Bureau data released yesterday documents the far-reaching effect of a business slump that experts say technically ended in June 2009: a surging demand for food stamps, considerably fewer homeowners and people doubling up in housing to save money.

The new figures show, among other things, that the number of people getting married fell to a record low level in 2009, with just 52 percent of adults 18 and over saying they were joined in wedlock, compared with 57 percent in 2000.

Marriage rates have been declining for years because of rising divorce and an increase in unmarried couples living together. Demographers say the current downturn may now be causing more younger adults to postpone marriage as many struggle to find work and resist making long-term commitments.

“Given the scope of the recent recession, many more couples are likely to choose cohabitation over marriage in the coming years,” said Mark Mather, an associate vice president of the Population Reference Bureau.

On the positive side: Americans spent about 36 fewer minutes in the office a week and were stuck in less traffic, although the reason was largely because millions of them had lost jobs or were scraping by with part-time work.

The government revealed that the income gap between the richest and poorest Americans grew last year by the largest margin ever, stark evidence of the effect that the long recession starting in 2007 has had in upending lives and putting the young at greater risk.

The top-earning 20 percent of Americans — those making more than $100,000 each year — received 49.4 percent of all income generated in the U.S., compared with the 3.4 percent earned by the bottom 20 percent of wage-earners who fell below the poverty line, according to the newly released Census figures. That ratio of 14.5-to-1 was an increase from 13.6 in 2008 and nearly double a low of 7.69 in 1968.

A different measure, the international Gini index, found U.S. income inequality at its highest level since the Census Bureau began tracking household income in 1967. The U.S. also has the greatest disparity among Western industrialized nations.

At the top, the wealthiest 5 percent of Americans, who earn more than $180,000, added slightly to their annual incomes last year, government data show. Families at the $50,000 median level slipped lower.

Three states — New York, Connecticut and Texas — and the District of Columbia had the largest gaps in rich and poor, disparities that exceeded the national average. Similar income gaps were evident in such large cities as New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Boston and Atlanta, home to both highly paid financial and high-tech jobs as well as clusters of poorer immigrant and minority residents.

On the other end of the scale, Alaska, Utah, Wyoming, Idaho and Hawaii had the smallest income gaps.

“Income inequality is rising, and if we took into account tax data, it would be even more,” said Timothy Smeeding, a University of Wisconsin-Madison professor who specializes in poverty. “More than other countries, we have a very unequal income distribution where compensation goes to the top in a winner-takes-all economy.”

According to the Stress Management Center and Phobia Institute in Asheville, North Carolina, an estimated 17 to 21 million people in the United States are affected by a fear of this day. Some people are so paralyzed by fear that they avoid their normal routines in doing business, taking flights or even getting out of bed. "It's been estimated that $800 or $900 million is lost in business on this day". Despite this, representatives for both Delta and Continental Airlines say that their airlines don't suffer from any noticeable drop in travel on those Fridays.

When you hire a professional wedding photographer, you are getting years of experience & expertise. Because it takes time to build the necessary skills to really master the art of documenting a wedding to ensure that your wedding memories are preserved in beauty & perfection. There are many that call themselves professionals, but truly are not. There are some beginners which lack experience and therefore are quite a bit cheaper. Just know that you will receive an inferior product. If you are okay with that, that's fine, because it is your choice. As long as you know the risks and are willing to take them, hopefully you won't be disappointed. Your disappointment is what I am trying to help you avoid. Your wedding memories are a one-time shot, NO DO-OVERS!

What about social skills? Have you ever been at a wedding and there's a so called goof-ball "professional photographer" who is inappropriately dressed, making jokes and thinks the wedding is all about "him", while embarrassing the bride and groom and irritating the guests? I assure you this is "NOT A PROFESSIONAL"! A professional should be technically precise, highly creative, organized and know how to properly photograph a wedding and work well with people while keeping the photo flow of the day flowing smoothly!
You will spend more time with your wedding photographer than any other vendor. Make sure you not only like their images and trust them, make sure you like them as well. Avoid arrogant, cocky, "I'm all that" photographers or your wedding day will be all about them and what they want. You deserve to have the day be about you & what you want!
I understand that brides don't always have "sky's the limit" budgets for their weddings. If you have a tight budget, consider cutting corners in less important areas. Most brides spend about a year planning every detail of their wedding day. After the wedding, the dress goes in a box; the wilted flowers are tossed away; the delicious food and cake are gone. Your photos are the only tangible thing you have to remember every detail and precious memory of the day that you spent dreaming about since you were a little girl. Do’s and Don’ts for Mother of the Groom Outfits

Your little boy has become a man and now he is getting married! While you cannot help but feel teary-eyed and a little bit sad that you are no longer that number woman in his life, you are also full of joy knowing that your son will be happy in love with the woman he has chosen to marry.

During his wedding day, of course, you would want to look radiant and beautiful. After all, you are not just any guest, you are the mother of the groom. Having the right kind of attire will help you achieve this purpose. However, you do not have any idea on what a mother of the groom should or should not wear. Here are some do’s and don’ts to keep in mind.

Do’s

Talk to your future daughter-in-law about your attire. Before going shopping, check with her if she has any wishes or suggestions on what you should wear for the wedding day. She would surely appreciate the gesture.

Complement the overall theme or look of the wedding. If the couple plans to have a beach wedding, do not wear a sequined velvet gown to the occasion. If they are going to hold an evening formal dinner wedding, an elegant formal gown would be more fitting than a cocktail dress.

Wait for the mother of the bride before buying a dress. This is an old custom where the mother of the groom waits until the mother of the bride has brought a dress so the former can have an idea on what kind of attire she should or should not wear. Although this is good etiquette, it is not compulsory anymore.

Wear what feels good for you. If your son and his bride wish for you to wear a particular dress for the wedding that you are not particularly comfortable on, you should inform them nicely. Tell them your concern and make suggestions that will not completely deviate from their original idea. For example, if they ask you to wear a beige floor-length gown, which you think makes you look short, you can ask if you can wear a beige cocktail dress of the same material instead.

Don’ts

Do not compete with the mother of the groom. Your son’s wedding is not a competition and it is not called for to attempt to out-dazzle the mother of your future daughter-in-law.

Traditionally, it is a major no-no to wear white or ivory dress (that would make you seem competing with the bride), black gowns (that evoke mourning or that you do not approve of the bride), or red attire (that is too loud and flashy). Today, rules have been bent a little and you can see mothers wearing these shades. A good advice would be to avoid these colors but if you must, do it in good taste and consult with the bride first.

Do not wear too much jewelry. It is one thing to be elegant but another thing to be ostentatious.

Do not wear something that looks like the bride’s wedding gown. This would make you look like there is a rivalry between you and the bride.

Your son’s wedding is both a sad and happy occasion for you. Do not let the sad part prevent you from enjoying the event and from looking wonderful with beautiful attire.

Why Hire A Professional Wedding Photographer? (part 1)

Just because someone has a nice camera doesn’t make them a good photographer. I own a hammer and nails, but you wouldn't want me to repair your roof! Most non-professionals do not understand how their camera's internal light meter determines exposure for instance. They don't understand that what may look good when they are taking the picture translates very differently to the final image. The way our eyes see light is very different from the camera's ability to see light. Have you ever taken a picture of a subject with the sun behind them? When you're taking the picture your eyes can see both the subject and the beautiful sun in perfect balance. So you are disappointed and confused when your pictures have a blown out sky and your subject is completely dark. It's situations like this and others that make it hard for people with good cameras to necessarily get good pictures. There are other technical considerations as well. Does this person with a good camera understand: lighting, posing, composition, exposure, depth of field, subject matter, white balance, or how to choose the best lens or camera angle for a given subject or situation?
It is important to keep in mind that a friend or relative does not have professional detachment in regards to your wedding. He or she will experience emotions, personal drama, and the gamut of reactions that come with attending a large family event. It is possible that even the most well meaning friend will inadvertently miss some shots due to other things that are happening throughout the day. Additionally, the photojournalistic style requires that the photographer remain completely uninvolved in the unfolding situation. This is a difficult position in which to put someone who obviously cares deeply about you...(to be continued)

According to the Greeting Card Association, an estimated one billion valentine cards are sent each year, making Valentine's Day the second largest card-sending holiday of the year. (An estimated 2.6 billion cards are sent for Christmas.) Approximately 85 percent of all valentines are purchased by women. In addition to the United States, Valentine's Day is celebrated in Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, France, and Australia.

Valentine greetings were popular as far back as the Middle Ages (written Valentine's didn't begin to appear until after 1400), and the oldest known Valentine card is on display at the British Museum. The first commercial Valentine's Day greeting cards produced in the U.S. were created in the 1840s by Esther A. Howland. Howland, known as the Mother of the Valentine, made elaborate creations with real lace, ribbons and colorful pictures known as "scrap".
